I know there are a million "how to be popular" guides on DA and a million more parody versions of them. This article isn't about becoming popular, or starting drama or racking up pageviews as fast as possible for the sake of seeing a larger number.
This article won't make your art better, or make you more a more popular personality. However, what I've noticed is that many artists are missing out on feedback and exposure that they should be getting if not for a few common mistakes. Time after time, I've read on Artist's Confessions, or just browsing through members' personal journals that their gallery doesn't recieve any traffic and they can't improve because they're not getting any feedback. They feel like their lack of popularity is a personal statement. That their art isn't worth looking at. This is entirely untrue.

Username changing and you!I recently posted a forum thread here about people's thoughts on username change. I find that a lot of them would like it, but know that deviantART has openly stated that they will not transfer anyone's content over.
Relatively recently, =Xehara, a deviant who wants to change her username posted a deviantART Suggestion here which got a Daily Deviation. I was a suggester, which shows that I am in full support of this idea.

On this Suggestion, I commented the following:
"I like this suggestion, but I know that dA's thing is that they don't want to confuse people by having people's profile links broken. So, I was thinking that instead of putting your old username back open for anyone to get, you pay the fee to have it disabled and whenever someone goes to that link, it redirects to your new page (like with `Skittleboi redirecting to °Josh)!"

Be a giver!
Sometimes you come across a deviation that deserves special attention. It catches your eye in such a way that you're compelled to craft a response that goes above and beyond a normal comment. Fair Exposure and miscategorization
On January 24th, 2012, we released an #hq journal regarding Popular results for Browse. In this journal, we described Fair Exposure -- deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results. Fair Exposure's goal is to showcase the most popular deviations in a variety of styles, genres, and art forms, without bias towards a particular topic.
Since the release of our Fair Exposure announcement, especially in the last handful of weeks, we've noticed a concerted, dedicated effort made by deviants, or groups of deviants, to specifically beat (or "game") the system. Deviations have been intentionally miscategorized in hopes of having them appear "higher" in Popular results. This has, rightfully so, resulted in complaints from deviants who submit to deviantART in a fair and honest manner.

Stolen art on conventions in PolandYesterday I came back from Otakon convention in Warsaw. As usual I had a small stand together with :icongoku-no-baka: with badges and small prints with our pictures. Sale was pretty ok but I spotted a few really depressing things.
First of all most of stands were just offering stuff with stolen pictures - not only official ones but also from DeviantArt, Pixiv(poor Japanese artist who post their pictures in high resolution), everything printed in low quality on badges, t-shirts, pillow covers etc The sellers were making really big money on it especially when they had low prices(for shitty quality prints), becouse people will buy cheap stuff anyway.
Second thing was a fact that me and Goku were only artists that were still trying to sell their art. It's not like we don't have talented manga-style artists in this country. There are really many of them - even here, on DA. Most of them used to go for conventions with their stands but ones with pictures downloaded from internet "killed" most

Report backlogging: What you can do to prevent it!The deviation reporting system works like this:
Someone submits a report through the "Report Deviation" button and waits to get reviewed by the administration. When a report of the same deviation the report merges with the current report and get's a higher chance of an administrator reviewing it.

A deviant finds another deviant who is breaking the rules and files a report using the +help desk and awaits a response from an administrator. While another deviant files a report about the same deviant, thus the staff now have two
reports of the same person. Sure they're categorized. But they do not merge together, making it more difficult for the administration who deals with reports if there is twenty reports about one deviant.

well, not much to be said as their current intent on having these so readily available. if i'm not mistaken they made a mistake while putting this up at first and accidentally made it available to people who hadn't purchased the software, then people freaked out, and they didn't bother to fix that seeing as how the cat was already out of the bag and would face some negative pr if they did. as for the not working on more recent systems remark. doesn't seem to be true, my desktop runs windows 7 and works perfectly, my laptop runs win 8 and runs even faster than this, and no bugs that i've encountered so far. i think that's just them trying to scare people into purchasing the more recent versions. so far downloading and using these hasn't gotten anyone in legal trouble or anything, so honestly, i think it's ok. but, your guide, your call, i guess. (thanks for the llama badge btw)

I've asked this somewhere else, but here is probably more appropriate to ask:

Can you do the same in Maya as you do in Blender? I seem to have trouble making 3D models in Maya, and there are tons of tutorials in this subject with Blender.

So I'm wondering if people don't make Anime tutorials for Maya due to it's price and how it is not too common, or Blender has something that Maya doesn't have...

I am going to skip this long explanation and slim it down to this. Any 3d program can do all the things other programs do, it all depends on the Persons Skill lvl ( even if the program is missing a feature there are people skilled enough to get around it).

I use to make anime in 3ds max [link] . The tutorials here you can apply to any 3d program i just picked blender as focus because it updates Every 2 months ( or some time frame like that) and will eventually pass the paid apps and bla bla bla. As for anime tutorials in max / maya you come to the right person Anime in 3d is my focus i know a few people.
