Reimu Hakurei WIP

The plan was to make all Touhou characters then put them in an animation or small real time environment.........but i did not have enough skill to pull it off, ( I do now :> ) since they are about 400 of them i will make the most popular ones first.

All models will be Game engine Friendly ( Unity 3D, UDK, Ect ) and up for download.

I always try to finish the head 90 - 99% before i start anything else.
Lets see how far i get with this project this time....

Hehe you're doing good, happy to see how you've been progressing since the first time we talked!!!

If you got something 'engine ready' I'd have a try at it to see how they fit with mine (I'd expect the way I handle animated characters is fairly standard but who knows)

Well Fan service for myself really XD this is an old project i was just not skilled enough to pull it off until now, Indeed like everything else this will be engine friendly   want to be about 15 to 20 k Tri, i thought this was to much at first but after watching the game conference at E3 Models will be 40k tris + next gen xD.

I can send you the  kagami model if you want, she is yours after all about 18k tris i think.

Not that this would put me off (retopo can be pretty quick) but...
...definitely too much for mobile hehee :P

Although we master models above 70k we might still downgrade them between 1k and 10k for mobile 
(I routinely see textured creature models in the hundreds of triangles).
But mmh for this kind of model strictly speaking the uber-high poly count is not justified imho (yea it's smoother but meh)

On this note beware that, on mobile also, there is a ~32k vertices limit for indexed geometry as well (I think I can explain this better but to cut a short story shorter we can't address a vertex beyond 32767 if I do remember, which would mean the model has to be sent in separate chunks to draw, which most of the time isn't a good idea).
Anyways not meaning to throw all this at you but just to explain that it can still be somewhat of an impediment to have super large tri-counts.

Ah i see thanks for the info i am sure what ever company i get in to they will give me my Poly limits to not pass i am just modeling randomly going by what they say on their blogs,
The highest i ever went for a game model is Jane (V2) she is 50k lol i need to trim her down tho all of it is not really needed but she works in Unity, everything else i try to go about 14 to 20k tri, all the touhou models should be around this number.

Indeed i normal leave the topo messy because it's just a base model for zbrush but i don't think i am going into zbrush with this, not to sure yet i never really combine Normal maps with toon shade.

I still have no clue how to use Zbrush, I hope the interface is as simple as Sculptris LOL.

If it's for game you can ditch the normal map and bake it into difuse/output color, but for animation kinda strange to see the shadow doesn't match the light LOL.

Yes Indeed i think if i do normal map i will leave it off in the render and turn it on for Unity or something.
Z brush is pretty nice to know was not to hard  ( navigation )

The frills on her bow, how do you make that?, just hard work moving vertexes, or is there some randomization script which can do it.

Thank you kind person, unfortunately I did this by hand but you can do it by making a path then making the frill follow it around the edge, i am new to Maya so i didn't know how to do it but i know it can be done.

about 30 mins to an Hr i did this before in my other 3d software so i was experienced on what to do to make it go faster, once i figure out the path thing i will retire this method Haha.

All i do is use a plane and shape each lock this should help you.

You can check other tuto of making hair too and I still have a lots of card under my sleeve :)

I am planning to make another polygon hair tutorial with some texture, but can't promise I will do that.

haha your very welcome, thanks for the tuts :P! i use a different program but i guess programs are just like different pencils, might be a different tone but the once you learnt a technique you can apply it in different ways (AKA programs) Haha.
